Resolved
Step sync delay on iOS 18.3 Some users saw a 15–30 min delay in HealthKit step data appearing in the app. Fixed in app version 1.2.1. Β· June 8, 2026
Monitoring
Credits occasionally not awarded for steps under 500 Very short walks (under 500 steps) may not trigger credit calculation on the first sync. A background sync within the hour catches these. We're monitoring the fix. Β· June 11, 2026

❓ Frequently asked questions

Download the app, go through the onboarding, and grant HealthKit access when prompted. Sproutstep reads your step count from Apple Health to power all gameplay.

During onboarding you'll set a daily step goal (we suggest one based on your last 30 days of data), choose what motivates you, and receive your first free plant. That's it β€” walk and watch your garden grow.

When you first open the app, you'll be prompted to allow HealthKit access. Tap Allow on the permission sheet.

If you accidentally denied it, go to: iOS Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Health β†’ Sproutstep and enable Steps.

Without HealthKit access, steps cannot be counted and the app will not be able to award credits or fill your sun/water bubbles.

Yes β€” tap the menu button (≑) at the bottom of the main screen, then go to Settings β†’ Step Goal. You can adjust it at any time.

Changes take effect from the next day so today's progress isn't affected.

Your daily step goal is split in two. The first half fills the β˜€οΈ sun bubble. The second half fills the πŸ’§ water bubble.

Example: goal = 10,000 steps. Steps 0–5,000 fill sun. Steps 5,000–10,000 fill water.

Plants only thrive β€” and avoid deteriorating β€” when the bubbles they require are full. Each plant has different requirements, shown on its detail card.

You earn 1 credit for every 10 steps β€” from all steps you take, not just steps beyond your goal. Walk 10,000 steps and you'll earn 1,000 credits.

Credits are awarded automatically as HealthKit syncs throughout the day. There's no cap on how many you can earn.

A plant deteriorates when you don't meet its sun and/or water requirements for consecutive days. Each plant shows how many days of neglect it can survive on its detail card.

To save it: hit your step goal today (specifically the half that fills the required bubble). If a plant is at risk, an indicator will appear on the shelf β€” act before the countdown hits zero.

If the plant has already died, see "Can I revive a dead plant?" below.

Yes β€” tap a deceased plant in your collection to see its revival option. Revival requires a small in-app purchase; the price is shown on the plant's detail screen.

Revival purchases are handled by Apple and are final (non-refundable) except as required by law.

If you'd rather not spend money, you can leave the plant deceased or buy a new one with credits.

Mystery boxes can contain plants of any rarity. Rarity tiers and approximate odds:

  • Common β€” highest chance
  • Uncommon β€” moderate
  • Rare β€” lower
  • Epic β€” rare
  • Legendary β€” very rare

Exact percentages are displayed in the App before you open a box.

Bamboo is coming in an upcoming update! Keep walking β€” it'll be worth the wait. 🎍

All subscriptions are managed through Apple. To cancel:

  1. Open iOS Settings
  2. Tap your name at the top
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Select Sproutstep and tap Cancel Subscription

You keep access until the end of the current billing period. Your plants, credits, and collection are not affected by cancellation β€” you'll just see ads again on the free tier.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us directly. To request one:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Find the Sproutstep purchase and tap Request a Refund

Apple typically processes refund requests within a few days.

The free trial lasts 7 days. If you don't cancel before it ends, your Apple ID will be charged for the first subscription period (monthly or annual, whichever you selected).

To avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial expires via iOS Settings β†’ Your Name β†’ Subscriptions.

Premium removes all ads and unlocks the full Sproutstep experience. Specific premium features are listed on the paywall screen inside the app, as these may evolve over time.

Try these steps in order:

  1. Open the Apple Health app and check that your step count is showing there. If it's not, the issue is with your device or Apple Watch, not Sproutstep.
  2. Go to iOS Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Health β†’ Sproutstep and make sure Steps is enabled.
  3. Force-quit and reopen Sproutstep. The app will request a fresh sync from HealthKit on launch.
  4. Restart your iPhone.
  5. If steps are still wrong after 30 minutes, contact us with your iOS version and app version.

Credits are calculated as 1 per 10 steps, based on the data HealthKit reports to us. A few things to check:

  • HealthKit can have a sync delay of up to 30 minutes. Credits will appear once the data arrives.
  • Very short walks (under ~500 steps) may take until the next background sync (within an hour).
  • If your Apple Watch and iPhone both record steps, HealthKit deduplicates them automatically β€” you won't get doubled credits, but you also won't lose any.

If you believe you've lost credits due to a bug, contact us with the date, approximate step count, and your credit balance before and after.

Sign back into your Sproutstep account (same email/Apple ID you used originally). Your garden, credits, and plant collection are saved to your account and will restore automatically.

Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID β€” it restores automatically when you log back in with the same Apple ID. You can also tap Restore Purchases in Settings if it doesn't appear.

Check the following:

  1. iOS Settings β†’ Notifications β†’ Sproutstep β€” make sure Allow Notifications is on and alerts/sounds are enabled.
  2. Make sure Focus/Do Not Disturb isn't blocking Sproutstep.
  3. In the Sproutstep app: Settings β†’ Notifications β€” confirm they're enabled.
  4. Restart the app. If you changed notification settings, the app needs to restart to re-register.
